His father had a motto, always push on, so he grieved for his allotted time and decided he couldn't wallow in misery. He dedicated his time to giving his son a good life, and Matthew grew up with good morals and a sound heart. Of course, he practiced a yearly ritual of visiting his mother's grave and thanking her for life, and this eventually transformed into twice a year, once for her birthday and once for his birthday. He expressed artistic talent early in life, and rather than squashing it like most father's would for more manly endeavors, Matthew's father decided to nurture his gift and support him. After all he did have manly enough endeavors besides art, and hell with his talent he could really make a name for himself. He excelled in school, his grades streaming in at steady A's and B's and he even played soccer. Despite earning a decent scholarship for his soccer skills he decided against going to college after graduating and opted to take a year off to work on his art, which turned into two years, which dragged on longer until finally his father voiced that he didn't have any expectations for him to even step foot in a college. Happy with what he had he made himself a career in photography and painting, people paying him to commission works of great talent. He decided to travel for a while, for some more artistic inspiration, and set off with promises to return. He shortly ended up in Stony Brook and decided to settle down for a while seeing the charm the small town had.
