But Catharine, his mother, thought otherwise was it the feeling of it just being right or those blue eyes with the yellow ring around the pupil that seemed to look right into your soul. Whatever the case she and her husband David loved there little baby boy born to them in the little town of Crescent Hollow. Holden grew up having an average life in Crescent Hollow besides the fact that he had this strange love of the outdoors. Hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking you name it he could do it with a little help from his parents. His dad was the big influence on his love of the outdoors; for as long as he could remember his Dad would take him on a camping trip every summer no matter what the weather or how busy he was. You could say that he had the perfect life until that one camping trip. It had been one of those school years again; the one where the jocks picked on him because he did not play sports or like cars. If only they would get to know him he knew that he could get along with them but who wants to get to know the man on the sidelines. Holden really did not care what they thought about him the only thing on his mind was graduation and his annual camping trip with his Dad. He would just have to deal with all the annoyances of this last week and then it would be over. Then just like that he was free from those so called great years of high school and ready to move onto better things in life. When he got home his parents had a little surprise for him a brand new Jeep perfect for driving in the hills. The camping trip was set to be the next day and Holden could not wait for his last one before college. That morning as Holden loaded the back of his Jeep with the supplies his Mom came out to tell him goodbye and be careful in those woods, at least that is what he thought. When he turned to look at her he found her wearing a camping pack and a smile. This was going to be a first the never get your hands dirty Mom was going on a camping trip with he and his Dad. This made Holden’s heart sore; this was going to be a trip to remember. It was their second night in the wood and the air had become quite cold for a summer night but this did not bother Holden in the least. As he lay there under the stars in his sleeping bag he could not think of any other place he would rather be and then he heard it that unforgettable sound that still wakes him in his sleep, the growl of a wolf. Holden awoke with a start and began looking around. He saw no wolves but, he knew that he heard them. But, where were they? Then another noise that still wakes him up, the sound of this Mothers screams. Holden ran toward where his parents slept only to find the monster waiting. As it closed in on his Mother Holden did the only thing he could think of, he threw himself in between the wolf and his Mother. At first he felt nothing but then the pain came. As the wolf clawed at him his Mother and Father quickly sprang into action in an attempt to save their son. The last thing Holden remembered about the attack was his parent’s yells and the wolf bounding away, leaving him for dead. Holden awoke in a hospital bed to find a nurse watching over him. She told him that his Father had called for aid just before he blacked out and that he was in the Crescent Hollow Hospital. Then she went into the bad part of the news. The nurse told him that he would have to stay in the Hospital for a few weeks while his wounds healed. Holden thought nothing of this but he could tell by the way she looked at him that there was more to the story. The nurse let out a sigh and told Holden the news that would change him forever. His parents had been killed trying to save him from the wolf. She spoke of them as if they were heroes but all Holden could do was stare at the wall and stay strong. That had been two years ago and Holden still could not make the memories fade. Of course how could he when every time he looked in the mirror the reminder was looking back at him. Thanks to that wolf Holden had scars, not just one many. The most noticeable one would have to be the one that spanned from his eye down to his cheek, on his body no matter where he looked he always saw scars and so the memories stayed. Holden had to get away from Crescent Hollow and found himself aboard a junk headed to God knows where. As he lay on the deck looking at the stars the memories flowed and it took everything in him not to break down. Holden had to stay strong, after all he had been through he had no choice. He knew that there was something out in the world waiting for him, but what? The little junk made its last stop at the pier of Stony Brooke a small town in Massachusetts. Could this be the place that Holden had been looking for? A place that could make him forget all about the past and heal the scars of time. As he stepped off the junk all he could do was hope that his dreams would be made real soon.
